“A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but an accurate weight is his delight” (Proverbs 11:1)
The word balance have different meanings. Stability, equilibrium, fairness, justice, compare, evaluate, estimate.
In the area of interaction and matters regarding relationships the mind must be a good balance. When we make conclusion, or form an opinion, or try to understand a person the ‘mind balance’ must be a just weight. Not prejudiced, not biased, not controlled by what others say from a false balance. If it is controlled by these then our mind also will become a false balance.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace; but wisdom is with the humble” (Proverbs 11:2).
mind controlled by pride or humility?
Pride–making my own conclusion in haste. From my wisdom, my prejudices.
Humility — enabled to wait patiently to be guided by His Spirit, I can listen to other saints.
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them” (Proverbs 11:3).
In integrity or in crookedness.
Integrity — inner purity, desire for justice, no self seeking is present , no attempt to please others, no inner compulsion to give an opinion .
Crookedness — a mind that find faults with others, an attempt to exalt oneself, hidden Ill feelings because of previous unforgiveness or carrying past hurts, or fear that my false self image is cracking, listening to gossips.
“With their mouths the godless would destroy their neighbors, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered” (Proverbs 11:9).
By words the godless man destroys his neighbor. False balance brings forth false conclusion. Wrong words from a false balance.
