“And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.” (Genesis 11:5-6)
And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they…”
The evil one is still prompting men to build Babels, a name for themselves. The building of modern Babels. Collective wisdom, the modern exponential growth of communication, the shrinking world. The increasing self-confidence, the collective strength. Money power, Military power, medical power, artificial intelligence, etc.
“Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.” (Jeremiah 17:5)
This has increased manyfold. ” … lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;” (Deut 8:12-14)
“then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’” (Vs.17)
“Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.” (Vs.19)
Modern Babels will be broken. The present disease may abate leaving its severe scar. But the uncontrollable consequences that will follow. The economy will break apart. Money-making businesses will disappear. Jobs depending on this kind of business will shrink. Food scarcity will increase because of lacking, and because of selfish hoarding. Hidden selfishness will grow like wildfire. Strife and violence will increase. The rich and powerful will try to take control again.
This is the time when the hidden resources of true Christians will bloom and the fragrance of God’s love will manifest. People will begin to see the love of God in these people. What is internal, what is essential, what is of eternal value will be seen in these children. Sacrificial love, uncompromising purity, the hope of eternity all will be reflected in these children.
Great repentance will happen. From worthless pursuits, from seeking vanity, from hunting after human honour, people will turn to Truth. From self-confidence to God-confidence. From all boasting to true humility of seeing themselves as God sees them.
All rituals of lip service will become extinct. True worship will begin in the inner chambers. Godliness for gain will stop, Godliness with contentment will come up.
The present crisis may never blind us and make us hopeless.
Is 1 Cor. 11:30,31 to be only read on Sunday morning? It says, “For this reason, many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.”
If we have failed to judge ourselves, let us do that now. Let us continue to intercede and ask for God’s wisdom for everything.
Love,
K.O. John
